Start Beekeeping with our Nucleous Colonies
A nuc, or nucleus colony, is a compact yet fully functional honeybee colony that contains everything necessary for a thriving hive. Our nucs consist of 5 frames with bees, brood, honey stores, and a mated queen. In early spring, we source our nucs from our Mississippi beeyard, while in late spring to early summer, we create them right here in Southern Indiana.
Nucs offer an excellent entry point into beekeeping, providing a head start for establishing new hives or expanding existing ones. Compared to starting with a package or capturing a swarm, nucs have a higher success rate. They come with a ready-made workforce and a laying queen, which accelerates colony growth and honey production. Nucleus colonies are highly sought after for their ability to establish robust and productive honeybee colonies quickly.
Begin your own Colony with our Package of Bees
Our 3 lb bee packages contain a number of worker bees along with a separate queen bee in a queen cage. In early spring, we source packages from Georgia Certified Roberts Bee company, while in late spring and summer, we offer on-request packages from our Southern Indiana Bee yard. These bee packages are ideal for foundation-less hives.
Once purchased, you’ll introduce the package to a prepared hive by releasing the bees and carefully introducing the queen. Proper care, feeding, and monitoring are essential to ensure the successful establishment and growth of the colony. Bee packages are a great option for starting a new hive or replacing a lost colony. They provide a fresh and energetic workforce ready to build comb, forage for food, and contribute to honey production.
